Bilaterais e Relevos espaciais
In the early 1960s, Hélio Oiticica abandoned the two-dimensional representation of geometric shapes and began to explore the space, creating three-dimensional objects. Relevos Espaciais (Spatial Relief) produced at that time can be understood as turning the geometric elements present in the Metaesquemas series into three-dimensional objects. Composed of overlapping wooden sheets, painted in yellow and red, the resulting structure is complex, with reliefs and recesses both on its sides and on its faces. They float in space, hanging from the top, and can be seen from different angles, which underlines the bodily aspect of both the object and its color – Oiticica’s primary concern in the early 1960s.
